lee shaw (incumbent)
kern erectors, inc.
Name: Lee Shaw
Title: Consultant
Company: Kern Erectors, Inc.
Years in the Industry: Approaching 50 years
Other Industry Experience, including Leadership roles with SEAA and/or other Industry Groups:
I founded two steel erection companies, the first was Shaw Steel Erection, Inc based in Texas, in the mid 70's, and the second was S.L. Shaw Company, based in California, in 2001.
Joined SEAA in the early 80's I think, just as AISC was coming out with the Erector Certification. Served on committees reviewing the SENRAC, which later changed OSHA's sub part R into its present state. Served on the SEAA board on and off most of my career.
As a father to four beautiful daughters, no boys, my work allowed me to be around young men, and gave me the opportunity to mentor throughout many of these men's lives. Heck, I remember the first time I hired David Deem (he actually had a full head of curly hair tucked under his motorcycle helmet!), and saw the potential in him and many others that I have come to know. I couldn't be prouder of these men. That's the biggest satisfaction, watching these youngsters take off and fly!
Statement of why you want to sit on the SEAA BOD:
It has been an honor to be a part of SEAA and to serve on the Board of Directors over the years. I hope my years of experience can continue to help guide the board and support the industry.

I have witnessed firsthand the strength and collaboration of SEAA’s membership, and I have been able to rely on fellow SEAA members for support when navigating complex and challenging projects.
What truly sets SEAA apart is the people. I would not be such a strong advocate for any organization without personally knowing and respecting its board members, fellow members, and vendor partners.

First of all, I am passionate about our industry. My grandfather started our company because he believed in ironworkers and in steel’s role in our society, and that mission continues to drive everything our companies do today. This is one of the few industries where our final product is tangible, and everyone in the community can see and enjoy what we build. It is incredibly valuable and rewarding.
Because of this passion, I want to see our industry grow and I want to see us remain strongly positioned and relevant over time. I believe I bring a unique skill set to our organization, as someone who has worked in other industries and who has a marketing background. I am excited to be a leader in our industry and to help find ways to address our biggest challenges.
