The “Handling Structural Steel” training module is available in VHS or DVD format in either English or Spanish language. Depending on the chosen format the program length is 26 to 28 minutes.
This program features a comprehensive look at step-by-step instructions of transporting steel from the manufacturer to the job site. This training module is accompanied by a Bilingual Instructor’s Guide with step-by-step instructions to aid the classroom instructor with a Pre-planning Checklist, Discussion Topics, and Knowledge Check. OSHA requires proof of the fact that employees have been trained in basic safety rules and procedures. This programs gives employers with validation of training in basic safety awareness information as required by law.

This safety program covers important segments including personal protection equipment, unloading and sorting steel, plus rigging hardware, slings and “making the lift”. Understanding how all three must work together for a safe job. The program takes an in-depth look at safely transporting steel to the job site, tips and important points of lining up the individual pieces so code marks can be easily seen and using proper dunnage and blocking are part of the discussion. Engage conversation of class attendees to make sure they comprehend exactly what “proper blocking is”. During the segment of rigging, discuss the different sling types and how and when they should be used. Stressing the importance of properly rigging a load and how using the wrong rigging equipment can be unsafe.
