SEAA Remembers Dave Schulz

David Alan Schulz was born October 9, 1954 in Saginaw, Michigan. He died December 19, 2020 at his home in Sanford, North Carolina. He was 66.

Known by his friends as Dave, he was a hardworking ironworker who started his career in construction in 1973 erecting grain dryers and boilers. Described as a funny, kind, and generous fireball of a personality, Dave was certainly rough around the edges. But that exterior belied a heart of gold. More.
SEAA Reschedules Convention for October 2021
The SEAA Board of Directors announces that its 48th Convention and Trade Show, previously scheduled for April 2021 in Orlando, Fla., will now take place Oct. 12-14, 2021.

The meeting will be held at the DoubleTree by Hilton at the entrance to Universal, in Orlando, Fla. Registration opens February 15. More.
Board of Directors Pursues New Association Leadership
The SEAA Board of Directors announces that Tom Underhill, Executive Director, retired as of December 31, 2020. He served in that role from 2011 to 2020. Under his direction, a number of critical new programs were implemented. “Hiring a new Executive Director is the first priority of the Board of Directors,” said David Deem, Chairman of the Long Range Planning Committee. SEAA Releases New Craft Training Video
A new Craft Training Video is now available through the Members Only Portal on the SEAA website. The Ironworking Module Three, 30103 Tools and Equipment of the Trade, is a short video that supports the SEAA/NCCER Ironworker Level 1 curriculum and has been designed to complement your existing training materials. NASCC To Go Virtual for Second Straight Year
AISC will hold 2021 NASCC: The Steel Conference 2021 conference online April 12-16. While it is disappointing to miss out on in-person networking two years in a row, the good news is that last year’s online version went well. The 50-plus online sessions were packed, some of them bringing in more than 1,500 attendees. Registration will open February 8, and session information will be posted in early February. More.
SBA and U.S. Treasury Announce Final Guidance on PPP Loan
The second round of the Payroll Protection Plan (PPP) loans opened on January 11, 2021. The U.S. Small Business Administrations (SBA) and the U.S. Department of Treasury released the final guidance for first time applications, and stronger stipulations for second time borrowers. More.

Kinsley Construction Receives Recognition from ABC
Kinsley Construction Inc., York, Pa., has received an Excellence in Construction award from the Keystone Chapter of Associated Builders & Contractors (ABC), for their work on OSS West York Orthopedic Clinic and Urgent Care Facility. Kinsley also received four Merit Awards for projects completed between January 2019 to December 2019.

ABC’s Excellence in Construction Awards program recognizes the outstanding work on projects built by ABC Keystone members. More.
Dave Steel Elects New President
Tim Heffner
Dave Steel Company, Inc., Cincinnati, Ohio, has elected Tim Heffner as President and Chief Operating Officer. Heffner is the fifth president in the company’s 92-year history, and the first of which that is not a member of the Dave family.

Heffner previously served as Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Dave Steel Company for 27 years, and has assisted in growing the company from a regional fabrication company to serving projects throughout the nation. More.
