Erector, Safety Company, and Fabricator Join Ironworker Training Network
 
The Steel Erectors Association of America announces that three additional companies have joined the nationwide network of SEAA/NCCER Ironworker Training Units and Assessment Sites. They are ASPE-South LLC of North Carolina, Trivent Safety Consultants of Colorado, and Monterey Structural Steel Inc., of California. More.
 
Drop Test Videos Now Available for Members
 
In August 2016 several SEAA member companies pooled their resources together to conduct nine drop testing scenarios for the most common fall arrest methods used by steel erection companies. Results from the tests are available to members only, and can be accessed by logging into the SEAA website using your membership credentials.  More.

Garrison Steel Adds Training Tower, Trainer to Ironworker Program
 
Garrison Steel has integrated a training tower into the company’s SEAA/NCCER Ironworker Craft Training Program. “Launched in January, the hands-on work station has resulted in a student population that is more engaged and determined than ever,” reports company founder John Garrison, who received the Alabama AGC’s 2019 Gary Savage Workforce Development Award . In addition, Garrison Steel announces that Rick Clay has joined Garrison’s staff as a trainer.

Milwaukee AGC Names JP Cullen VP to Lead Association
 
 
In January, Jeremy Shecterle, JP Cullen vice president, was elected 2019 president of The Associate General Contractors (AGC) of Greater Milwaukee. Shecterle, who has served as an AGC director since 2016, is emphasizing workforce development this year. In the construction industry for more than 20 years, he’s been with JP Cullen since 2000. In mid-December, JP Cullen marked the grand opening of its Milwaukee office.  More.
 
Shelby Erectors Creates Recruiting Website
 
 
Shelby Erectors, Inc. has launched an in-house career website to simplify the process of applying, interviewing, and being offered a position in the company. It was developed by integrating online job boards with a 100% electronic process. The website is updated daily with new job postings and project information, and will serve as an online employee training hub.  More.
 
Cooper Steel Develops Fabricator Training Program
 
 
Cooper Steel launched a 12-week fabricator training class in January. The Fabricator Training Program was created for both current and potential employees to fill a need for a more advanced training regimen for fitters. NCCER welding and ironworking modules have been adapted. The curriculum covers an introduction to the trade and rigging, fastening, welding, reading drawings, and flux core for ironworking. More.
 
RK Steel Earns Awards, Recognition
 
 
RK Steel made the cut on two industry lists, including Engineering News-Record's Top 600 Specialty Contractors and Denver Business Journal's Top 100 Private Companies. In addition, the company has won an award from AGC for its work on the Mile High Harley-Davidson of Parker Canopy project.   More.
 
Magni Opens New Jersey Branch
 
Last October, Magni celebrated the opening of its Paramount branch office in Roselle, N.J., to serve the East Coast market. In attendance were Magni customers and partners, who not only enjoyed a ribbon-cutting and cake, but were able to try Magni machines, stationed in the facility parking lot. More .
 
NCCER Releases Construction Superintendent Certification
Program
 
NCCER released a new superintendent assessment, and is partnering with FMI to offer a joint certification to qualified professionals in the superintendent field. The assessment was developed for professionals who oversee the operations of a construction site from planning to completion. This joint certification encompasses the NCCER assessment and the FMI Field Leadership Institute that provides hands-on interactive education. More.
 
Simpson Strong-Tie Expands Scholarship Program
 
 
Simpson Strong-Tie added 32 scholarships in its Student Scholarship Program for the 2019–2020 academic year, to bring the total to 100. The Program encourages the design and building of safer structures by assisting architecture, structural engineering, and construction management majors in meeting their education costs. Scholarships of $2,000 are awarded annually to students at 93 participating schools. More .
 
 
JLG Industries Celebrates 50th Anniversary
 
JLG Industries, Inc. kicked off a year-long 50th anniversary celebration in January, a half-century since its founder introduced the world’s first boom lift. The company’s product portfolio has steadily expanded over the years to include hydraulic- and electric-drive scissor lifts, telescopic handlers, vertical lifts, and access solutions.
