April 4, 2023 (Winston-Salem, N.C.) The Steel Erectors Association of America (SEAA) has selected the winning hard hat sticker design in a contest it hosted on social media in January and February. The hard hat sticker will be offered as part of the association’s recognition of OSHA’s National Safety Stand-Down to Prevent Falls in Construction, May 1-5, 2023. The inspiration for the winning hard hat sticker came from Bryan McClure, SEAA member and Owner of Trivent Safety Consulting, Denver, Colo. Contestants could submit designs for any of three themes:
McClure said of his design concept: “I'm a second-generation ironworker and I owe my livelihood to my father for teaching me a strong work ethic and introducing me to the trades. During my career I've worn many hats--ironworker, foreman, crane operator, superintendent, craft instructor, and training manager. Through these experiences, I've found my passion for training and helping ironworkers be safe day-in and day-out. Needless to say, I'm Steel Proud!” McClure will receive bragging rights and 250 stickers with his design. The sticker will be offered with other promotional materials to SEAA members that are hosting Fall Prevention Safety Stand Downs this May. “This is the second year we have held the hard hat sticker design contest and it’s a great way to engage with everyone in the steel construction industry, not just our members. Hard Hat Stickers bring a sense of community to the jobsite and we want to create a network of support throughout our industry,” said Chris Legnon, Chairman of SEAA’s Marketing Committee and Vice President, Technology, for Cooper Steel. In recognition of the week-long stand down, SEAA is also offering a poster that focuses on how to engage workers during pre-task meetings which can be downloaded for free at: https://www.seaa.net/standdown.html#downloads. The poster and other resources to assist steel erectors in holding a Fall Prevention Stand Down, are available on SEAA’s Stand Down page. About Steel Erectors Association of America
